Be confident

The most important thing is to have faith that there is someone else out there for you. After a break-up it's easy to feel like you will never find another partner again, but it's more than likely that you had several relationships before you met your ex. Bearing this in mind, there's a very good chance that a new partner is somewhere on the horizon. Once you can accept the idea of finding another significant other, you know you're on the right path.

If it was a bad split, it's also essential not to tar everyone you meet with the same brush as your ex. They may have hurt you, but there are plenty of decent and honest people in the world who will make you feel special and loved. It's up to you to prepare yourself for meeting them and unfolding the next chapter in your love life.

Deal with your emotions

You're not ready to begin dating again until you've dealt with the hurt, anger and upset that goes hand in hand with a break-up. Once you've let all of that out of your system, there will come a point at which you get fed up of directing those emotions at your ex and want to get your life back together again.

Make yourself over

Once you've got used to the idea of a new partner and handled your range of emotions, it's time to ditch your comfy pyjamas. If you're going to get back in the dating world, you need to build up your social confidence again. Tempting though it may be to carry on mooching around the house, now is the perfect opportunity to reclaim your wardrobe and make-up collection, and get out and about seeing your friends again.

Think positive

The healing process will be much quicker if you can maintain a positive outlook on life. It stands to reason that people will be more attracted to someone who has a confident, upbeat nature than someone with a negative outlook who doesn't seem to have much going on in their life. If all else fails, fake a big fat smile! You'd be surprised how many people will be encouraged by this. The act of faking confidence and happiness can eventually persuade YOU that you actually are! Don't give up!

Be prepared for rejection

Not everyone you meet will be instantly bowled over by you, just as you won't be interested in everyone that you come into contact with. The trick is to not let it get to you. Sooner or later you will meet someone that makes you want to fall in love again.
